Exposing your body to a temperature at least below 70 degrees for a few minutes provides many benefits for the body. This practice is cryotherapy, and in the program “Bienfait pour vous”, the columnist Cécile Coumau draws up some of them for health.
Some people stunned by the heat of the past few days no doubt dream of taking a breath of fresh air. Or even attend a cryotherapy session, which also brings many benefits. Senior columnist Cécile Coumau spoke on the show Well done for you this trend which tempts more and more French people. This involves exposing his entire body to a temperature at least below 70 degrees for a few minutes. This practice, acclaimed by seniors and top athletes, is however contraindicated for people “who have a history of heart disease, hypertension, kidney problems and phlebitis”, underlines the columnist on Europe 1.
Enhanced protection of vital organs
With thermal shock, a cryotherapy session “forces the body to protect vital organs. The blood vessels retract, the heart rate slows down and hormones are secreted”, explains Cécile Coumau. Pascal Grillon, president of the Cryopôle group specializing in cryotherapy, affirms that this “neurostimulation allows reset, like a telephone. We have an internal application, homeostasis, which is the balance of our body. Cryotherapy is going to have an impact on it.”
An anti-inflammatory effect
The results depend on the number of sessions, the sex of the person, their age, the time at which the session is practiced and whether or not they have eaten just before. Cryotherapy is particularly practiced by athletes, because it can treat inflammatory problems. There are two cases, details Cécile Coumau. “When the origin is mechanical, such as tendinitis, the cold can repair it by promoting tissue oxygenation”, she first indicates.
“When the inflammation comes from the immune system, cryotherapy can only relieve by releasing endorphins and acting on the brain”, adds the columnist on Europe 1. On average, it takes between 25 and 30 euros for a session. “For a simple fitness, five sessions are enough”, specifies Cécile Coumau.
