liquor king Vijay Mallya, who is the subject of a removal ask for from India for affirmed financial irregularities, was arrested by Scotland Yard in London on Tuesday morning, according to the source.
Vijay Mallya, who arrived here in March a year ago and later had his passport revoked, will appear before Westminster justices’ court later on Tuesday, the sources said.
The flamboyant businessman is wanted in India for defaulting on loan worth around Rs 9,000 crore related to Kingfisher Airlines that was grounded in 2012.
Vijay Mallya, declared a willful defaulter, left the nation on March 3 and is said to be in the UK.
India’s ask for his removal was as of late confirmed by UK secretary of state. The request came when Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met the UK Chancellor and others.
“The UK home department on February 21 passed on that the request of India for extradition of Vijay Mallya has been ensured by the secretary of state and sent toward the Westminster Magistrates’ Court for a district judge to consider the issue of releasing of warrant,”external affairs ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay had said.
